If English were a person you could talk to…

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

I have decided to run a little competition here on AB.C.
The following statements all came from one professor during a linguistics course. Try to guess what the prof was talking about when each of these was said. The winner gets no prize! Leave your guesses in the comments. Some of these […]

Takin_ th_  _ _ _

Friday, October 13th, 2006

Last night, Mark decided that I was stressing out too much about the GRE (which I am taking in less than 3 hours…). In order to keep it off my mind, he was benevolent enough to declare that any use of the letters “g” “r” or “e”, or the sounds that they make, would […]

Fickle tests, and courses

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006

Not fickle courses, mind you. Just that the tests are fickle, and there will be something about courses in this post.
I may be influenced largely by the fact that I’m taking the GRE (or as Danny called it, the ToD) on Friday, but I’m even further convinced than before that standardized testing is a […]

GRE = ToD

Wednesday, September 13th, 2006

I’ve finally settled into a pretty steady routine for the time being.
At the moment, things are dominated by the GREs, or as Danny calls them the ToD. I’ve been told that grad schools in linguistics weigh them less heavily than the other application materials, but at this point, “it’s personal”. So every night […]

Emotown update

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

I’m all moved in to my new place for this semester. You may recall that I’m living in Emotown (aka Mod 23). Almost all of us are here, so yay for that.
My mother insists that I upload some photos of my new digs, so ladies and gentlemen, here they are.

Soon to come - […]

I’m really doing this. Also, N-drop.

I have a thesis topic.
I never thought I’d say those words, but they’re right there, staring me in the face. I guess this means I’m really doing this whole “life” thing.
The basic idea of the thesis can be summed up in the following sample sentences. (For my non-linguist friends, “(*xyz)” means that “xyz” […]

Brandeis loves JetBlue

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

Just got back to Brandeis from vacation (I’m very sleepy from the flight). But:
So, I sit myself down in seat 23D on my JetBlue flight from Long Beach, get myself all comfortable, put on my headphones, etc. After I’m nice and situated, I turn my head to look at my neighbor… and […]

Done!

Sunday, April 16th, 2006

I’m very relaxed right now. And it’s not because I’m on break. A few things have changed recently, and at least one warrants sharing:
My term as Secretary of the Student Union is over. I’ve held that position since Danny resigned a year and a half ago. While the end of a […]

All gussied up

Junior/Senior Formal was last night. I don’t have much substantive to say about it, but go check out the photos.

EmoTown Lives!

Friday, February 17th, 2006

Numbers for Brandeis’ housing lottery were released today. My number? 2245 (very bad).
Luckily, two friends got (exceptionally) good numbers, meaning that EMOTOWN LIVES!
