If you haven’t heard about the foiled terror plot in the UK or the ensuing airport delays, suffice it to say that basically every airport in England is jam-packed. And I’m flying through one of them today.
For those who want to keep track of where I am, I’ll be taking a bus from Oxford to Heathrow at 4am (British Summer Time), arriving some time around 5:30am (BST). The airline said to leave about 4 hours before my flight, so that arrival time should have me set for a 10:05am (BST) departure, even if we hit some traffic. Assuming the flight isn’t delayed (which it will be).
I’ll post back here when I’m home safe and sound, probably some time around 4 or 5pm (Pacific), but it could be several hours later.
The lines, the security, the hassle - I can deal with those. But the prospect of a 12-hour flight without being allowed to bring a carry-on (not even a book or an iPod!) really does not appeal to me…

Best of luck, buddy. Not a fate I’d wish on anyone, twelve hours alone with only your own thoughts… I’ll be thinking of you as I read my book and play with my MacBook while flying from Boston to the same place…
