I’ve finally settled into a pretty steady routine for the time being.
At the moment, things are dominated by the GREs, or as Danny calls them the ToD. I’ve been told that grad schools in linguistics weigh them less heavily than the other application materials, but at this point, “it’s personal”. So every night I spend a few hours doing practice sets and vocab and whatnot. It’s amazing how much math I’ve forgotten since high school, but at least I’m recalling it pretty quickly and I’m sure I’ll do better on my next diagnostic (at least, I’d better :)).
I’m also diving headfirst into my thesis. I had a long talk with Prof. Goldberg today about the thesis, and also about where I should apply to grad school. EmoTown can attest to the fact that I was getting just a little nervous last night about that, and today’s conversation was very reassuring. The thesis will be a lot of work (duh), but I’m looking forward to it. In the immediate future I’m going to be preparing a review of the literature I’ve read so far, and outlining some basic goals of the thesis, in addition to re-learning syntax… Yay trees!
My internship at Berkman is turning out to be pretty fun. Every Tuesday (the day I intern there) there is a lunch lecture by someone prominent in the internet, and that breaks up my day really nicely (in addition to letting me hear some cool lectures).
In just over 10 days, I’ll be 21. Eep.
