Going to the mall (or “How I ended up in Everett, Mass.”)

It’s starting to get colder here. Being the Californian that I am, when I saw it was supposed to hit the 50s this weekend, I knew I needed to act fast and get a jacket.

After asking around, I was told that the best place to accomplish this necessary goal was the Cambridgeside Galleria - they have an Old Navy and a Gap, as well as an Apple store (Chris came with me, as we originally were going to get his iPod fixed at the Apple store).

I looked up directions on GoogleMaps, which hadn’t failed me ever before. It didn’t take the MassPike, which I was happy about, seeing as we were going during heavy traffic, and I’m too stingy to pay the tolls (another thing California has conditioned me to is free roads…).

It was all going fine, until we decided to follow the posted signs in Massachusetts.

Call me crazy, but if a roadsign says “Kendall Sq. Merge Left”, would you not assume that to get to Kendall Square, you merge left? Apparently, not in MA.

To make a long story short, after 4 hours in the car, three stops for directions (a gas station, an apartment building, and a motel), and much nervous chatter, we arrived… In Everett, Mass.. This is where we wanted to be.

We got a quick bite to eat from the lovely people in Everett, and decided to head home, forgoing our jacket-getting mission. We made it home without incident (but I did break down and pay the tolls on the MassPike).
