Danny and Aaron do the JFK Presidential Library

Last week I IMed Danny, saying something to the effect of “I haven’t seen you in forever”. After flatly rejecting a hike (in my defense, it was freakin’ cold that day), he suggested the JFK Presidential Library. Having been the Nixon take on the same theme, I thought it would be fun.

I arrived at Danny’s at noon, and following a great lunch at Diva in Davis Square, we were off.

Now, some of you may recall that I’m not very good at getting places, but I had complete and utter faith in Danny’s navigational ability. He had directed us to Davis Square alright, so I figured I could trust him. We got off the red line at JFK/UMass, and, following the diretions of a guy at the station, got off the platform via a staircase on the right.

At the sketchy Boston Globe facility

We realized shortly that we’d gotten off on the wrong side of the tracks, and needed to get around to the other side. As we walked down the street, looking for a cross-street where we could turn around, we kept encountering this huge wall separating the street we were on from the freeway.

Some 30 minutes later, we were at the Savin Hill T station. We started going back towards where the museum was supposed to be, but then the road curved.

Outside the JFK Library

Trying desperately to find a street to turn on, and after a few dead ends, Danny decided we should try cutting through the back of this big factory-looking thing. Turns out it was where the print the Boston Globe. After trying for about 15 minutes to find a way out of the Globe’s facility, we noticed a ramp in the distance that seemed to lead off to the highway… It didn’t.

After retracing our steps, passing a big “flammable hazardous waste” container (right next to a bunch of offices… real smart, guys), and me trying very hard not to panic, we remembered that we’d seen a girl enter the Globe’s parking lot with us. We attemped to retrace her steps, and eventually ended up on a highway.

The JFK Library atrium

Using my super-sleuthing abilities (give me some credit, please), I found a sign that pointed the way to the JFK Library! Yay! We followed a long path by the ocean, past UMass Boston, and finally arrived at the JFK library!

The library itself wasn’t as exciting as the trip getting there, but I do really like the way the photo of the atrium came out (at right).

Plus, we got Doubletree cookies for free on the way home :)

Well, you know what they say, its all about the journey.

Yeah, you are so totally not giving me crap about my directions anymore. At least I always have some vague idea as to where I am!
