Done!

I’m very relaxed right now. And it’s not because I’m on break. A few things have changed recently, and at least one warrants sharing:

My term as Secretary of the Student Union is over. I’ve held that position since Danny resigned a year and a half ago. While the end of a term of office in student government really doesn’t sound all that momentus, anyone who’s held that particular office before will tell you that it is. To list all the duties that I had to perform on a daily basis would be pointless (and boring to read), but suffice it to say that I probably spent more than 30 hours a week doing the job in addition to being a student, my job at Web Tech Services, and, ya know, having a life.

The last few weeks, before my term ended, I started trying to do more of that last thing (having a life). I’ve been going chez Danny pretty regularly to watch SciFi, I’ve seen a movie in a *theater* three weeks in a row, and I accepted an offer (although it didn’t materialize) to drive to the Bronx for no apparent reason on a weeknight. And I’ve liked it.

I decided to reread the post Danny made when he resigned from the position of Secretary. What struck me most was a comment I made (not to say that your writing wasn’t witty and wonderful, etc, etc, Danny).

I think it’s really good that you’ll be taking some time for yourself – lord knows you’ve given enough of it.

I plan to do just that.

Next semester, if everything works out, I’ll be taking only one lecture course (Internet and Society - a cool-sounding Anthro class), my thesis (in Linguistics, hopefully something in language acquisition), and an internship (to be applied to the Internet Studies program, even if I can’t have it as an official minor). I’ll still be involved in the Union - I’m a member of the Union Judiciary - but it’s a much less involved role. I also still have COG (Computer Operators Group) and my job at WTS to consider, but on the whole, I’m looking forward to a year filled with much more fun, (a little) more sanity, and an entirely different outlook on life.

(Just don’t get me started about looking for grad schools…)
